Malaria
The Malaria test uses a drop of whole blood. This test has the potential for three lines. As with all our tests, there is a Control line which lets you know the test worked properly. Since there are four different parasites that cause malaria, Line 2 will detect lactate dehydrogenase, an enzyme which is present in all four parasites. So if you get a line at 2, the patient has some form of malaria. Line 1 will form only if the sample contains HRPII. This tells you that the patient has Plasmodium falciparum (the parasite responsible for 90% of all malarial deaths). The Malaria test comes in a cassette format.
